Antique Handmade Silver Dutch Cloth or Sewing Scissors
These are 200 year old, handmade silver handled scissors from the Netherlands. The steel blades are hand forged as are the silver handles. The handles and blades are slot mounted and riveted together with two brass rivets per handle. One of the steel blades is pointed and the other blade has a blunt end; both blades are the exact same length, as was the standard 200 years ago. The scissors still work and cut perfectly. A well-to-do person would have own these scissors originally, and the owner would have suspended them on their person on a chain or a ribbon by the handmade "S" hooks and thus protected the scissors being stolen or loss. The scissors are approximately 7 ½” inches long. The silver hallmarks indicate that they were made in 1815 and of 833 silver. All of the piercing and decorative details were done by hand. The each handle forged from silver ― not cast or stamped. The scissors have not been buffed and monogrammed.
